TYSONS CORNER, VA May 1, 2015 — Executive Mosaic — Harris Corp. will provide weather program support for the Federal Aviation Administration under an eight-year contract worth $238 million, GovCon Wire reported Wednesday.
The single-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract aims to reduce delays and decongest the national airspace system through the establishment of the Common Support Services-Weather program, an aviation weather information dissemination system.
Harris said Wednesday it intends to build a scalable CSS-Wx that uses analysis tools to process meteorological information for sharing across the enterprise.
“About 70 percent of flight delays are caused by weather,” said Carl D’Alessandro, vice president and general manager for civil programs at Harris Government Communications Systems.
