Michael Flynn, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, and his deputy, David Shedd, announced this week that they will step down from their roles by the Fall of this year.
Flynn joined DIA as director in July 2012 and Shedd has been in the deputy director role since August 2010.
In a message to DIA employees, the leaders said, “today and tomorrow DIA is clearly postured to achieve even greater heights due to the establishment of our fully integrated intelligence centers, enhancements to all-source analysis and building the Defense Clandestine Service.”

In other government news, Robert Work has been named by the DoD to serve as the next deputy secretary of defense at the Pentagon.
Work has led the Center for a New American Security in Washington as CEO since leaving the DoD last year.
The 27-year Marine Corps led the Department of the Navy issue team as part of President Barack Obama’s 2008 transition team for DoD and he also served on the defense policy, acquisition and budget teams.
In his new role, Work succeeds Christine Fox who served in an acting role after Ash Carter retired in December.
