Executive Mosaic, Tysons Corner, VA January 12, 2015 – GovCon Wire: IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Epic have formed a Military Health System advisory group to provide industry best practices in support of the team’s contract bid for the modernization of the Defense Department‘s healthcare management system announced Thursday on FierceHealtIT.
The group will help guide the IBM-Epic team in the implementation of an electronic health records system, including care delivery, governance, training and analytics.
“Transforming care is about so much more than standards and technology,” said Andy Maner, managing partner of IBM’s U.S. federal business.
“Having an ecosystem of experts ready to provide expertise at the outset of [program] will prove to be invaluable.”
The advisory group includes industry professionals from companies or organizations such as Sentara Healthcare, American Medical Informatics Association, Partners HealthCare, Mercy Health and Mount Sinai Health System, as well as veterans acting as patient champions.
IBM and Epic announced their partnership in June to pursue DoD’s EHR modernization contract, which seeks an interoperable health IT system that can facilitate data sharing with the Department of Veterans Affairs and private-sector healthcare providers.
The two other teams bidding on the contract are:
- CSC (NYSE: CSC), HP (NYSE: HPQ) and Allscripts
- Cerner (NASDAQ: CERN), Accenture (NYSE: ACN) and Leidos (NYSE: LDOS)
