TYSONS CORNER, VA, April 3, 2017 — AT&T (NYSE: T) has won the potential $6.5 billion First Responder Network Authority contract to build a national broadband network for public safety organizations over a five-year period, GovCon Wire reported Friday.
The Commerce Department said Thursday the public-private partnership arrangement extends over 25 years with an estimated $40 billion total investment by AT&T to cover network deployment, operations and maintenance.
“FirstNet is unprecedented in its vision, scope and importance to our nation and the future of public safety communications,” Kay Kapoor, president of AT&T’s global public sector business, said in a company statement released Thursday.
“There’s no connection more important than one that can save a life.”
