TYSONS CORNER, VA August 3, 2015 — Matt Desch, Iridium Communications CEO, said the company remains on track for a 2017 full deployment of the Iridium NEXT second-generation global satellite constellation despite a component delay, GovCon Wire reported Thursday.
“We continue to move the initial space vehicles through low-rate production and have successfully integrated the first Aireon payload with the satellite platform,” Desch, an inductee into Executive Mosaic‘s Wash100 for 2015said Thursday.
“However, a subsystem supplier is reworking an important hardware component related to the Ka-band satellite links, which is pushing our initial launch on the Dnepr rocket out two months to December.”
Iridium said last week the company earned $18 million from its government business in the second quarter of its fiscal year 2015, up 12 percent from the same period in 2014 thanks to its defense contract for satellite airtime services.
