Smith will report to federal business lead Kay Kapoorand focus on developing the federal business unit‘s technology agenda. This will include overseeing big data, cloud computing, logistics and supply chainservices.The 25-year Air Force and Air National Guard veteran held senior positions with the General Services Administration and the Internal Revenue Service prior to joining USDA in 2009.
He was named 2011’s Federal CIO of the year by Government Executive magazine.Navy Awards Half-Billion Dollar Network and Communications IDIQ
The U.S. Navy will hand out up to $500 million by March 2017 to up to 14 contractors for network and communications equipment.
Awardees including SAIC, Iron Bow Technologies, GTRI and World Wide Technology Inc. will compete for orders to provide commercial-off-the-shelf equipment and provide related support on the IDIQ.
The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic in Charleston is the contracting activity and received 18 bids for spots on the contract.
CenturyLink Houses Federal, Cloud Business Under One Roof
As of April 1, CenturyLink will move under a new operating structure that will align its federal business led by Diana Gowen and its cloud computing business in one group.
Jim Ousley will lead the new Enterprise Markets Group and also serve as CEO of Savvis, the cloud computing, colocation and managed hosting firm CenturyLink acquired in June.
The company’s Regional Markets Group will serve its state and local government customers, as well as businesses operating in its local operating regions.

Citizant Promotes Operations Manager Nigro to VP of Civilian Agencies
Citizant has tapped three-year operational managerFrank Nigro to lead its new Civilian Agencies groupas the group’s senior vice president.
Nigro joined Citizant in 2009 after a 20-year career with the U.S. Army that included stints as a program manager for information systems and division chief for system application support services.The company credits Nigro with helping position the company for wins on several contract vehicles with the Treasury Department and with building its successful IRS solutions delivery team.
