Executive Mosaic‘s employees fulfill many roles for the media and networking firm, ranging from EM’s news writers that inform readers of daily industry news to those that help carry out its thought-provoking forums.
One of those employees in EM’s mosaic-like workforce is Julia Fanning, an EM staffer since December 2011 and its speaker and events coordinator.
Fanning helps lead coordination of the Potomac Officers Club by scheduling the headline speakers, selecting the venue for the events and other logistics for POC.
She recently led a company-wide initiative aimed at delivering a care package to an Army private first class, who deployed to Afghanistan for nine months in December 2012.
Fanning said she found out through a friend about the “Adopt a US Soldier” program, where volunteers sign up to provide care packages to troops stationed overseas and communicate with them.
“Many soldiers don’t get to be home at Christmas with their families,” she said.
Her goal was to raise $200 by the end of January for an extra set of boots and gloves, which the soldier requested as he was only able to pack one.
“I raised $300, double what I needed,” Fanning said.
She will use the extra funding for a second care package containing items such as snacks and cards.
“It’s going to him next week,” Fanning said.
