Smith made a big splash when the announcement was made in March 2012 that he would join Kay Kapoor’s team at Accenture Federal Services.
Smith was joining Kapoor’s team from the Agriculture Department where he had been named Federal CIO of the Year in 2011 by Government Executive and was seen as a thought and organizational leader on the government’s use of next-gen technologies, having overseen the largest government migration to a cloud system.
His industry and technology presence continues to echo across the public and private sectors now that he is serving as vice president of technology at AT&T Federal Services, leading a team of 175 technologists and charged with innovating and developing new products and capabilities in areas including mobility, cloud and cyber.
“He is going to be an important engine of innovation for AT&T in the federal sector,” said Kapoor, now president of AT&T Federal, when Smith joined.
Smith’s public sector market experience extends 25 years and includes includes additional roles with the General Services Administration and Internal Revenue Service and service as a joint tactical communications officer for the Air Force, Air National Guard and Army National Guard.
