Executive Mosaic, Tysons Corner, VA January 8, 2015 — Horace Blackman, vice president of health and life sciences at Lockheed Martin, has predicted a strong year for health information technology, citing developments in electronic health records management as growth drivers.
“Health IT has been one of the dynamic spaces within the federal market for quite some time,” Blackman told In Depth host Francis Rose on Federal News Radio.
“My prediction is you’ll certainly see a lot more… in terms of the integration of the clinical side of healthcare delivery.”
The Lockheed executive, who reviewed his top 3 upcoming trends in government contracting in his conversation with Rose published Monday, also noted that the proliferation of apps directed at both consumers and providers will also contribute to health IT growth in 2015 and beyond.
“I think you’re going to find a lot of useful apps – folks who are looking to make appointments with their physicians, folks who are looking to interact with their health records, understand what’s going on… You may see a point where [prescriptions] were issued electronically,” Blackman said.
Medical devices that can provide better access to medical records, lab results, patient data and clinical applications and other things in line with continued care would be a “big deal moving forward,” he added.
Blackman also predicted movement in information security and data integrity, and the continued demand for cloud services and other commodified infrastructure, according to the radio station.
