ExecutiveGov has covered a number of important news stories in the past week concerning the federal government.
This release will look at two of the most important articles published and the government executives that were focused on in those pieces.
The first story involves Gen. Janet C. Wolfenbarger, commander of the Wright-Patterson headquartered Air Force Materiel Command.
When speaking at the Dayton Area Defense Contractors Association, she said that although difficult, sequestration offers contractors an opportunity.
The cuts are a chance to “bring good ideas forward and have them get a fair, sound hearing in a way that (in) some other environments we don’t get the opportunity to put those good ideas on the table as readily,” the top Air Force official said.
In readying contractors for 2013, the General said, “you will find that those programs that were cancelled, substantially modified or didn’t fare well in the president’s budget request would be those that are not executing well.”

The second major story of the week focused on Frank Kendall and his recent comments about the likelihood of the automatic budget cuts.
Frank Kendall, undersecretary for acquisition, technology and logistics was speaking at a National Contract Management Association conference when he said Congress will reach a deal to delay the cuts before January.
He told Reuters he is optimistic that lawmakers can not only delay the cuts but that the White House and Congress can form a bigger budget deal in early 2013.
Kendall added that the DoD would have to rethink the kind of department it wants to be if the full cuts were to take place.
