In the past week, ExecutiveGov covered news concerning many aspects of the federal government.
There were two stories published that focused on leaders in government attempting to move to a new role including U.S. Senate candidate George Allen commenting on acquisition reform and the nomination of General David Rodriguez to lead the U.S. Africa Command.
George Allen spoke at a round table of defense contractors ahead of the election, and covered a number of reforms including the need to award best value deals instead of “low-price technically acceptable” proposals and he proposed shortening the bid protest process from 100 days to 60 days.
To illustrate his point about best value deals, the former Virginia Governor and Senator said, “If you needed heart surgery would you go to the one who was giving you the lowest price?”

In other news, President Obama nominated David Rodriguez to the head of U.S. Africa Command, located in Germany.
According to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, the General played a key role in the Afghan surge and the policies that have since been implemented in the country.
In order to be officially appointed head of the command, he must be approved by the U.S. Senate.
