The Wash 100 is a premiere group of executives from the government contracting industry handpicked by the Executive Mosaic staff.
Last week, Ray O. Johnson, senior vice president and chief technology officer at Lockheed Martin, was named to the exclusive group of executives who drive innovation and growth at the intersection of the public and private sectors.
The technology thought leader was selected for this honor due to his wide-ranging service to government and dedication to STEM education.
Last year, Lockheed Martin gave $10 million to STEM and Johnson continues to lead the company’s efforts on the issue.
“So we are concerned about the number of young people who are needed to replace these important technology positions,” Johnson said.
“We want to inspire students to pursue these disciplines, which we know are critical not only to our national security, but also to our economic strength and our global competitiveness,” he added.

Johnson runs Lockheed Martin’s advanced technology laboratory and its center for innovation in addition to leading the company in the areas of technology, engineering, production operations, program management and supply chain operations.
He leads the technology outlook for 72,000 people working on more than 4,000 projects relating to U.S. defense and security.
Some of the technologies he focuses on are brand new areas of interest for the federal government.
“We are trying to move beyond the current computing architecture into quantum science and quantum computing,” he said.
“We have purchased a computer from a company called D-Wave that has been installed at the University of Southern California where we are researching the next generation of computing architectures,” he added.
He also mentioned green technology and nanotechnology as important issues his team are focusing on.
