ExecutiveGov unveiled a number of timely and important news items this week geared toward the government and government contracting executive.
One major piece of news the website reported was the cutting of Defense Department civillian furloughs from 11 days this summer to six days.
According to Chuck Hagel, moving funds from acquisition programs into daily operations and reduced costs of moving equipment from Afghanistan gave the department the freedom to cut down the furlough days.
Civillian employees began taking one furlough day per week on July 8 and the program will run through August 17.
In total, the 11 days of furlough would have saved the DoD $2 billion.
