The website published a number of stories this week including pieces where Ray Odierno and Wendy Masiello discussed issues that are facing their service branches.
Ray Odierno, U.S. Army chief of staff, recently said budget cuts that are occurring due to the sequester are hurting the readiness of the Army.
As an example of the negative consequences of sequestration, Odierno said one Army brigade may have to defer training at the National Training Center.
“I certainly hope we do not have to deploy soldiers, but my job is to make sure we are ready to deploy them,” Odierno told Defense News.
“And if we have to do it in the next six years, we have significant problems, because I think they will not be trained or equipped the way we think they should be as American soldiers to do their job,” Odierno said in the interview.
Due to sequestration, the Army must reduce its troop size from 570,000 to 490,000.

Wendy Masiello, director of contracting at the USAF, recently said that the Air Force’s use of GSA’s One Acquisition Solution for Integrated Services contract vehicle has helped the service branch in a number of ways.
“There’s been a sea change in how GSA partners,” Masiello said, adding that it ”has simplified the decision process.”
She says it has benefited the USAF on decision making process, surcharge expenses, contractor management and know-how on IT products ordered.
