TYSONS CORNER, VA, April 19, 2018 — The Raytheon-sponsored (NYSE: RTN) 2018 National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition has named the University of Virginia as champion after besting nine other finalist teams from U.S. colleges and universities, GovCon Wire reported Monday.
The company said Sunday UVA successfully completed the challenge of protecting the network of a fictional biotechnology firm from cyber attacks lobbied by security professionals acting as hackers — a scenario that sought to simulate potential incidents in real life.
“NCCDC’s systematic, professional approach to this competition and the use of real-world business scenarios will contribute to filling the projected 1.8 million cyber job vacancies by 2022,” said John DeSimone, vice president of cybersecurity and special missions at Raytheon’s intelligence, information and services business.
