EMThe New New Internet unveiled a number of timely and important news items this week geared toward the government contracting executive.
The GovCon technology website unveiled two stories this week with important industry news concerning an F-35 test and an a large acquisition in the cloud computing space.
Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Air Force variant fired a missile during flight at a test range in California on Wednesday.
This is the first time this variant of the aircraft has fired a missile, according to the Air Force.
“It’s a testament to the entire military-industry test team,” said Lt. Col. George Schwartz, F-35 integrated test force director.
“They’ve worked thousands and thousands of hours to get to the point where we are today,” he said.
The F-35B is designed to carry a payload of up to 18,000 pounds using 10 weapon stations.

Another important story the website covered was the acquisition of ExactTarget by cloud computing firm SalesForce for $2.5 billion.
The deal is expected to close in late in SalesForce’s second fiscal quarter and the transactions aims to create a marketing platform across various applications.
“ExactTarget’s mission is to revolutionize how businesses connect with their consumers using data-driven digital marketing across all channels,” said Scott Dorsey, the company’s founder, chairman and CEO.
SalesForce predicts that marketing will start to become much more about mobile devices and web applications in the coming years.
