The intimate access afforded by these interviews provides insight as to how companies are acquiring new business, what the future holds and the personal side of corporate leaders.
This past week, ExecutiveBiz published two spotlights with leaders in GovCon, including executives from Unisys and Skylink aviation.
Ted Davies serves as president of Unisys Federal Systems and is a 17-year veteran of McLean,Va.-based Booz Allen Hamilton.
He talked to ExecutiveBiz about a number of topics including the company’s security and cloud offerings.
“Some people may recall that Unisys helped GSA become the first federal agency to move their entire enterprise to a cloud e‑mail environment. We did that with Google in 2011,” Davies said.
“We’ve done four other implementations in other agencies since then. We just won another award in late September and we’ve got a couple more right behind that,” he added.
Davies also discussed how the firm is taking technologies from the commercial side of their business and utilizing them in the federal business.
“Our federal business is about 15 percent of the company, which gives us 85 percent of the company from which to draw to bring in solutions from commercial clients and from non-U.S. federal government organizations,” Davies added.
“We’ve been able to bring new solutions to our federal clients from other parts of our business, and we’ve won exciting new work over the past couple of years to add to that now stabilized base,” he added
Rima Saleh serves as SkyLink Aviation’s business development EVP where the 25-year industry veteran helps craft the company’s strategy.
In her chat with ExecutiveBiz, she spoke about the company’s ability to be flexible with international clients.
“We may develop a strategy to move heavy lift such as armored vehicle from Afghanistan for the Canadian DND on Monday and search for helicopter lift or ground handling solutions on Thursday,” she said.
She also spoke about her upbringing and how it helps in her current role.”I was born in Beirut, Lebanon and grew up in a war zone where religious fervor drove irrational behavior and frequent violence. As a child, not knowing the difference, it was a normal way of life. It made me understand and appreciate the difficulties of the environments SkyLink sometimes operates in,” she said.
