The New New Internet reported on Friday that Harris Corp. and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have collaborated to launch a data-monitoring tool designed to help environmental data users distribute accurate weather information to the public.
“The PATRON database now provides an enterprise-wide view of anomalies and their impacts,” said Romy Olaisen, vice president, environmental systems product line, Harris Government Communications Systems.
The product anomaly, ticket, relationship, organization and notification (PATRON) tool tracks and reports anomalies about the weather products of the geostationary operational environmental satellite — R series ground segment.
Developed for four months, the tool integrates data from the NOAA satellites, built-in instruments and ground system computers to allow weather forecasters, emergency responders and scientists to identify system-wide anomalies and assess their impact.
Harris, the GOES-R ground segment project data operations support team, the office of satellite products and operations/satellite products and services division and PATRON operators worked together to develop the tool.
