Cybersecurity rose again to the forefront of minds in government and the GovCon industry this week as the White House unveiled an updated set of proposals to address an evolving cyber landscape.
The updated list of proposals includes a call for legislation that would establish a framework for government and industry to share intelligence on cybersecurity incidents with each other.
Under this setup the White House outlined, private businesses would lead information sharing and analysis organizations, which would aim to gather and analyze information on potential threats to U.S. critical infrastructure.
Additionally, reports surfaced this week that President Barack Obama would include cybersecurity as a primary point of emphasis in his State of the Union address Jan. 20.
Rob Zitz, chief systems architect at Leidos, discussed what Obama could propose and how recent events such as the Sony hack have changed the discussion in an interview with the Washington Business Journal published this week.
“I think that the recent and very public attacks that have occurred have increased the awareness of those in the executive and congressional branches,” he told the publication. To start its 2015 event lineup, the Potomac Officers Club will host its ‘2015 Intel Summit‘ on Jan. 21. and National Intelligence Director James Clapper will deliver the keynote address in a half-day forum for GovCon executives and agency leaders.
Other speakers scheduled to appear include: (list ordered by headshots above from left to right) - Lonny Anderson, CTO at NSA
- Janice Glover-Jones, CIO at DIA
- Jim Martin, defense intelligence director at DoD
- Mike Rogers, former House Intelligence Committee chairman
- David Shedd, acting DIA director
